Temporary Emergency Support Plan
(TESP)
What is a TESP?
A Temporary Emergency Support Plan (TESP) is a short-term, high-priority intervention plan designed to address an immediate and severe maladaptive behavior that poses a significant risk to the individual or others—typically the highest-risk behavior of concern, such as physical aggression or self-injury. TESPs are created in urgent situations, often during transitions such as a move from a Stabilization and Crisis Unit (SACU) to a residential setting, or when a client exhibits dangerous behaviors requiring immediate guidance and stabilization. Once assigned, a TESP is completed within 10 business days and is prioritized above all other pending assessments. The purpose of the TESP is to provide immediate, structured support strategies for the client and their care team while a more comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) are developed to ensure long-term, sustainable support.
